SC students urge Centre to release scholarship funds
Students belonging to the SC community have urged the Centre to release funds of the post-matric scholarship, so that they can pursue their education.
They have been running from post to pillar as they are not able to pursue their education due to delay in the release of funds. Recently, students of the GNDU had also gone to Chandigarh to meet the authorities to solve their problem.
Students have also been refused their detailed marksheets and degrees by the GNDU. The authorities have asked the students to pay fee and take degrees.
Prince, president of the Phule Ambedkar Student Association, said, “A group of students went to meet the higher authorities in Chandigarh, but to no avail. The Centre must ensure that the scheme is working in a proper manner. It’s been three years that the scheme has not been operational properly. We cannot even have our own degrees. I know many students are pursuing education due to this issue. We all are worried about our future,” he said.
There are around 1,100 students waiting for their degrees and detailed marksheets.
The Punjab Unaided Colleges’ Association (PUCA) has also urged the state Department of Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes to open Dr Ambedkar’s Scholarship Portal for SC students of Punjab for the 2019-20 session.
Dr Anshu Kataria, president, PUCA, in a press statement, said, “The portal used to opened in August or September for SC students to apply for scholarship, but this year the process has been delayed by around three months.”
